SWC Reads: Red White & Royal Blue

For me, few things are more enjoyable than an intelligent protagonist, even better when that incredibly smart person still can’t seem to get it together. And that is exactly what we find in Alex Clairmont-Diaz, First Son of the United States. College senior, and son of the first female president, is dealing with crisis of his own making on a regular basis, despite knowing he should know better. He would rather people know him as the charming future congressman who is fun to have at parties than the kid who color codes and memorizes every fact he has ever deemed worth knowing; a true closet nerd if ever there was one. With his older sister, June, and their friend, and human super computer, Nora, nothing can stop him, except, maybe his unadulterated hatred for the Prince of Wales, Henry, who seems to be the oh so perfect Prince Charming that gets under Alex’s skin more than anyone he’s ever met. To the point of inciting international, political incidents.

Forced into faux friendship to repair their own PR nightmare, the two men fall into the most beautifully written rivals-to-lovers story I’ve read in a very long time.

Some books pull at your heart strings, others tickle your funny bone, Red, White & Royal Blue manages to do both, sometimes in the same moments. I picked up this book and read the whole thing in one sitting because I had to know what happened next! I couldn’t get enough of the witty repartees or the moments of sheer dumb-assery; usually happening simultaneously. The only time I put it down was when I was laughing so hard I was crying and was afraid I would get tears on the pages!

I seriously cannot recommend this story highly enough!
