The Tools Everyone Should Have in their Closet
It doesn’t matter if you’re working with a 30 piece capsule wardrobe or if your walk in closet is bigger than some people’s apartments there are some tools everyone should have on hand to keep their clothes, and themselves, looking their best.
Iron or Steamer. Kick wrinkles to the curb and keep your clothes looking fresh. No one wants to look like their outfit just spent a week in their gym bag. Pressing your clothes keeps you looking elegant and poised.
A Fabric Shaver. This is especially important for cashmere sweaters which always seem to pill up if you’re wearing them regularly. A shaver makes it easy to simply shave the pills right off your sweaters to keep your look pristine. Just make sure to hold the fabric taut so you don’t snag it while using the shaver.
Lint Roller or Clothes Brush. If you’ve got fuzzy friends who live with you this is especially important! No one wants to see pet hair or lint on your clothes.
Safety Pins. These little guys have saved many a wardrobe mishap over the years, from clothes that don’t quite fit they way you hoped to anything that might happen on the go, having a safety pin handy will never be a bad idea.
Tide to Go. Because stains always happen at the worst possible moments. Murphy’s Law.
Cedar Shoe Trees. Any shoe tree will help keep your shoes from creasing and losing their shape (which ensures they last longer) but the ones made out of cedar have the added benefit of absorbing any sort of sweat or odor your feet might have left behind.
Sewing Kit. I’m not saying you need to know how to operate a Singer and make your own clothes from your drapes Sound of Music style but knowing how to stitch a button back on or how to close a seam that’s split will save you so much trouble in the long run.
