(Art) Walk This Way

Supporting the arts is one of the most powerful and important things we as a society can do. Especially in a country where arts programs are being cut. An absolutely criminal thing to do to a child’s education, in my opinion.

As someone who can draw cartoon animals and that’s really about it I am constantly in awe of the incredible artists in my city whose work is featured in the local galleries. Art in all its magnificent forms are presented to the public each month on First Thursdays Art Walks (or Second Fridays, depending on the neighborhood). Seattleites come out in droves to see the latest exhibits and who is featuring what work for the month. It’s a wonderful opportunity to engage with a cross section of society that could only be brought together by great art. As Queen Victoria once said “Beware of artists. They mix with all classes of society and are therefore most dangerous.” Because great art gets people talking. It inspires ideas and conversations and takes you places. Getting the chance to see the latest art by some truly incredible artists is always a highlight and something we look forward to each month. And if you’re in town on a First Thursday I cannot recommend highly enough taking the time to wander through the galleries and supporting some local artists. (It’s free museum day at the SAM as well, but go early if you don’t want to spend too much time in a crazy line to get in.)
